Windows

You could save up to £165 per year

Check List:

  • How thick are your curtains?

How can new windows save money?

New double or triple glazing can save you a substantial amount of money on your heating bills.

In much the same way insulation is vital for trapping in heat - so are high rated double glazed windows.

By not letting heat escape though the glass or frame it helps to trap heat inside the house. This means your heating system has to burn less fuel and so saves you money.

But I have double glazing

If your double glazing was fitted over 10 years ago, then it is probably still leaking heat. This is due to today's glazing technology being able to insulate heat better and because the seals around your windows may have started to deteriorate.

Can curtains help?

English Heritage found that heavy curtains can reduce heat loss by 41%. They also help if there are small draughts around the windows.

You should also close all your curtains when it gets dark. This helps to insulate your windows and further reduce the amount of heat lost.

How can new windows save carbon?

New double or triple glazing can save you a substantial amount of carbon.

In much the same way insulation is vital for trapping in the heat - so are high rated double glazed windows.

Certain glazing technologies can also help to heat your home. These techniques are often used in modern zero carbon homes. If you have a south facing wall you should investigate how these technologies can further lower your carbon footprint. This is because they can use some of the sunlight that falls onto the glass to help heat your house.
